SSAFA Presentation

A big thanks to all of you who were generous enough to fill in Bobby Campbell's sponsor sheets or buy raffle tickets at Alford and Scone, your efforts raised £443.37 for SSAFA Forces Help.
Bobby sends us his heartfelt thanks and is most appreciative of all the help and assistance we have given him.
The  cheque was handed over to Colonel Andy Middlemiss of the Perth and Angus branch of SSAFA at a presentation in the Burn House near Edzell on October the 25th. In return the SMVG was presented with a certificate of thanks.

Bobby is now over the half way mark on his walking marathon in aid of SSAFA Forces Help. He started on March the 1st walking  six miles a day, every day come rain hail or shine. Initially he had planned to walk for 1 year but has since decided to extend the walk to July 2009 increasing the target mileage from 2000 to 3000 miles. He has since been joined by two young army cadets, John and Stanley Horsburgh who will accompany him at weekends.
To show his appreciation he has extended an invitation to members of the SMVG among many others to join him at a celebratory barbeque to be held at the Burn House when he finishes his walk in July.
If you were one of those who received a sponsor sheet from Bobby at the Alford event and have been able to raise some additional money for the cause, its not too late as we can hand it over when he completes his walk in July.
SSAFA Forces Help provide support for the serving men and women in today’s Armed Forces and for those who have served - even if it was only for a single day, they also care for the needs of their families and dependants. Our support for SSAFA is especially significant at this moment in time. SSAFA has been in existence for over 100 years and has supported servicemen and their families throughout the many conflicts that have taken place over the last century. Its now 2008 and nothing has changed in that respect. We are once again at the centre of conflict and we are very aware that the demands on SSAFA at this moment in time are high. It is for this reason that we were keen to help raise cash for SSAFA.

Meanwhile the walk goes on......

COMMENT-
I know several women have already received their badges, but I also know there are a lot of women who either do not know how to apply or feel that after such a long time, this is a very small gesture. I am therefore appealing to all club members to pass the word on and let as many people know about the badges as possible.
These girls did a wonderful job and they deserve full recognition of their service.

 Expedition Saharan Saunter 2009

SMVG Member Major Garry Wallace is planning an ambitious expedition across the Sahara Desert for 2009.  Billed as being the ultimate living history experience,  the group plan to follow in the sand tracks of the legendary Long Range Desert Group, taking a route from Cairo to El Alamein whilst taking time to stop off at places of historical note such as Barce and Tobruk along the way. If you have a spare pair of desert boots, a suitable military vehicle of the era along with plenty of sun tan lotion, you may even want to take part in this epic journey !

We are still awaiting the promised photo of his Series One Landie parked on the summit !

Well done Graham !

New Delivery of Pennants

The new pennants have arrived !  The previous ones we had were found to be of inferior quality and were not durable enough for our demanding requirements, so this time we have gone for a more expensive high quality product which should last for years. Made from a heavy duty flag quality woven fabric stitched at the edges, they come complete with integral aerial sleeve and ties for easy attachment.  The pennants are priced at £17 each.  Contact Peter Gorrie for further details.  You know you want one ! ( Mount Everest even has one now )
