The SMVG Annual Swap Meet. 10th April 2022

Just to let you know that the annual SMVG Swap Meet is going ahead as planned at Bridge of Earn on Sunday the 10th of April.  Current Scottish Government Covid 19 rules and guidance will apply. Masks will be mandatory unless you are exempt. Please do not attend if you or any of your household have Covid 19 symptoms. But as you know the country is in a state of flux and the current situation can change overnight. So check the club website before you set off on any distance for any last minute changes to the event status at

With all of the sales tables indoors now taken up the hall will once again be filled to capacity with sellers offering you all kinds of militaria, military vehicle parts, uniforms, books and collectables. There are some new sellers coming on board for this year who I'm sure will be offering some nice interesting bits of kit for sale as part of their clear out. This will be our first Swap Meet after a hiatus of two years so it promises to be a busy one.

Up on stage will be yet another military themed diorama created by our expert props builder Dave Neill. Outside the hall there will be a display of military vehicles...that's providing some of you bring yours along. So, if you are intending coming along in your green machine let me know in advance so I can keep a parking space aside for you.

The NAAFI will be up and running from 10am selling hot breakfast rolls, tea and coffee. Lunch time will see the usual scramble for Sandy's pies and sausage rolls, now you’ll have to be in there quick as they always sell out in a jiffy!  There will be plenty of home bakes, cakes and fancies on offer to go with the afternoon cuppa. It is likely to be busy in there at times so until you are seated be kind enough to wear your mask and give other people around you their space. Most importantly, please give our hard working NAAFI lasses’ plenty space too, wear your mask and be patient and respectful towards them.

The Club Shop will be in attendance and will be set up in the NAAFI tea room. Alistair Smith will be there to show you the latest in club merchandise and will be a good opportunity to get kitted out for the coming season.

It’s a busy day for Committee members, so if you would like to volunteer to help out in any way then give me a shout.

The hall has been given a recent revamp. The kitchens and the serving area in the NAAFI tea room have been nicely refurbished. There are new double glazed windows all round with good working openings which will be used to encourage a good flow of fresh air around the hall. Notably there has been a new electronic sliding door installed at the main entrance. Its opening is a bit narrower than what we are used to so we’ll have to watch ourselves there. It’s all been freshly painted and decorated so it will look much smarter than the last time we were in there in 2019.

All in all, it’s a good day out and you're sure to find something interesting there to buy. What's more it’s a great opportunity to meet up with everyone for a social gathering and to perhaps find out what everyone's plans are for 2022.

Where is it held?

It’s held in the Institute Hall, Bridge of Earn, PH2 9RQ. Which is just 2 minutes off junction 9, M90. Look for the SMVG direction signs as you drive through the town.

Visitor Info

On arrival at the hall, park in the football field car park directly opposite or in the nearby streets. Please do not park in front of the hall, the space there is needed for loading, unloading and the display of military vehicles and outdoor stalls weather permitting. Admission is strictly from 10am, finishing at around 4pm. Entry is one pound and accompanied under 16’s are free.

Stallholder / Exhibitor / Staff Info.

The drill is as follows. Stallholders should reverse park into the loading area outside the hall frontage. Unload as swiftly as possible before moving your vehicle across the road to the car park to let the next stallholder in. If you need a hand to speed things up, then give me a shout. Doors open at 8am for stallholders and staff and for setting up only. Ideally you should have your stall ready in good time for the public arriving at 10am. Hall must be vacated and cleaned up by 5pm.

Follow these basic rules as everyone does year in and year out and it all goes very smoothly. Simples!

SMVG Facebook Page

Does the SMVG have a Facebook page? Its a question that we are often asked and the answer is yes we do. However its a private page only open to club members and its status is secret at the moment so a quick search will reveal nothing. If you are a current member and you wish to join our Facebook community you need to contact John Webster who I'm sure will get you on board in a jiffy. Contact John on email at
